Does it always present you with an unsolvable task how much fabric you need to plan for the binding?

Here we have put our heads together for you:
Based on common standard sizes, we have calculated how many binding strips you need. For comfortable sewing, a 10 inch (25cm) overlap is planned.

Not quite easy to understand...
Here you can see what I try to describe with many words.

A small pair of scissors shows you the line where you cut the strips apart.

Tip: Give your rotary cutter a break. For this step, it's best to actually use scissors. Unfold the fabric before cutting. Only then can you safely hit the line and bring out the design in its best form at the end.
For comparison: Most people skillfully cut normal fabrics on the fold with a patchwork ruler and rotary cutter into binding strips.

With your strips, you now rejoin the usual binding sewing process:

  1. Sew strips together at the short side with a 45° seam.
  2. Fold lengthwise in the middle with right sides together and iron.
  3. Rolling up (Makes sewing on easier for you. It's easy to get tangled in 7.60m long binding spaghetti).
Meanwhile, you consider which of the two possible designs you want to use.
  4. Sewing on. The side that wins the race lies underneath (right sides together with your quilt top).

All colors are OEKO-Tex certified and therefore also suitable for baby quilts and clothing.

If you want to be absolutely sure that your quilt size is not an outlier and that the binding will definitely be enough, only a small calculation is needed. It takes less than five minutes and doesn't hurt, promise.
Measure the length of your quilt and the width of your quilt. Add both together.

Example:

Your quilt is 1.55m wide and 1.86m long.
Calculation: 1.55 + 1.86 = 3.41
In the table, you now look for the row where you find your calculated value*. In my case, row 3 - Throw.
The size mentioned there will fit your project, no matter what it's called.
*WARNING: This is NOT the required length but only an auxiliary value.

Your calculated value

everything smaller than 2.50 - Choose Baby / Crib. You will receive 5 strips.

2.51 to 3.00 - Choose Lap / Small Throw. You will receive 6 strips.

3.01 to 3.60 - Choose Throw. You will receive 7 strips.

3.61 to 4.15 - Choose Large Throw / Twin. You will receive 8 strips.

4.16 to 5.20 - Choose Queen / Full / Double:  You will receive 10 strips.
